🌍 World

The city of Meridian was once a beacon of hope, protected by a pantheon of superheroes. But decades of collateral damage, political corruption, and a devastating betrayal caused the public to turn against them. One by one, heroes retired, vanished, or were killed. Now, superhumans are rare, often hunted by government agencies or feared by the public. The city has become a gritty, cynical place, riddled with crime and inequality. Rumors whisper of a new power rising in the shadows, and the last remaining hero, Valor, patrols alone, a ghost of a bygone era. The people no longer believe in heroes, but some still need them.

📖 Opening Scene

The rain hammers against the rusted fire escape as you huddle under a thin jacket, trying to ignore the cold seeping into your bones. Your phone is dead, your wallet empty, and the only thing you have to show for tonight is a bruise on your jaw from a run-in with a street gang. You just wanted to get home without trouble, but trouble seems to follow you like a shadow. Then, without warning, a surge of energy erupts from your palms, shattering a nearby window. You stare at your hands, glowing with an eerie blue light, heart pounding. What the hell is happening to you? A figure lands on the rooftop across from you, a man in a faded suit, his cape torn and stained. He moves with a weariness that speaks of decades of battles. 'You're not the first to have that happen, kid,' he says, his voice rough but not unkind. 'But you might be the last chance this city has.' He extends a hand, his eyes tired but holding a flicker of something like hope. 'I'm Valor. And I'm here to train you—whether you like it or not.' You scoff, turning away. You didn't ask for this. You don't want to be a hero. But as a distant explosion echoes from downtown, you realize that ignoring this might not be an option.
